Yukon Express Entry – The Way To Come To Canada

The Yukon Express Entry (YEE) appears as a simple and less competitive way for highly-skilled workers to immigrate to Canada. So what is Express Entry (EE) in Yukon like?

About the Express Entry in Yukon?

The Express Entry system of the Canadian federal immigration program is a system that specified for skilled workers. Of course, there are other existing options but Express Entry uses the system online to fast-tracking the application process. For that reason, many provinces and territories participate with the federal Express Entry system to tailor their provincial nominee program, including the Yukon Provincial Nominee Program (Yukon PNP).

Besides the Yukon Express Entry, the Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) has the Skilled Worker program and the Critical Impact Worker program.

Compare Express Entry stream and skilled worker program in YNP

Amongst three immigration program for skilled workers, the Yukon Express Entry and Skilled worker program of Yukon is sometimes making people confused and wonder why both of them exist. Let’s compare them

1. YNP- Express Entry

The candidates are required to have genuine intentions to settle in Yukon. As a partnership with the Express Entry programs of the Canadian federal government, you must have a valid profile on the Express Entry system and be eligible for one of the three following programs, let’s take a brief look at them:

Federal Skilled Worker Program: a point-grid program, the current pass mark is 67 points

  • Level of work experience: NOC skilled type 0, A or B.
  • Amount of work experience: 1 year continuous within the last 10 years.
  • Job offer: Not required but will add in more points if you have.
  • Language skill: English or Frech at least CLB 7

Federal Skilled Trades Program

  • Level of work experience: skilled trade under key groups of NOC B
  • Amount of work experience: 2 years continuous within the last 5 years.
  • Job offer: A valid job offer of full-time employment for a total period of at least 1 year or a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial, territorial or federal authority.
  • Language skill: English or Frech at least CLB 5 for speaking and listening, CLB 4 for reading and writing

Canadian Experience Class

  • Level of work experience: NOC skilled type 0, A or B.
  • Amount of work experience: 1 year working in Canada within the last 3 years.
  • Job offer: Not required
  • Language skill: English or Frech at least CLB 7 if your occupation in the NOC skilled type 0 or A, CLB 5 if your occupations in the NOC skilled type B

2. YNP – Skilled worker

Skilled-workers must be sponsored by a qualified employer in Yukon for an occupation that classified as NOC Skill Type 0, A or B.

The requirements for foreign nationals in the Skilled worker program are:

  • Have education and work experience that satisfies the requirements of the job as per the criteria specified in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) with the minimum acceptable level of education is a high school diploma.
  • Minimum language requirements for either English or French prove by credential tests:
    • Employment in NOC Skill Level 0 or A occupations must obtain the following minimum scores in each language category that equivalent to Canada Language Benchmark (CLB) 7
    • Employment in NOC Skill Level B occupations must obtain the following minimum scores in each language category that equivalent to CLB 5
  • Demonstrate at least one year of related work experience for the position being filled. This work experience may be gained outside Yukon
  • Have legal status if applying while staying in Canada. For the work permit, you must make sure that your validity is maintained throughout the process
  • If in Canada on a study permit, provide proof of:
    • One year of study for a certificate program
    • Two years of study for a diploma or Bachelor degree program
    • Completion of at least level eight of the English as a Second Language (ESL) program for ESL students at Yukon College

Process of Yukon Express Entry

The eligible employers who can prove that they can not find a suitable Canadian or permanent resident to do the job then they can access the Express Entry pool to search for candidates. The following steps are:

  • The employer offers the candidate who is having a valid profile on the Express Entry system and eligible for one of the Express Entry programs a job offer
  • The employer and selected foreign worker jointly complete and submit the Yukon Express Entry application form for the Yukon government to issue a nomination
  • The candidate receives an additional 600 CRS points and an ITA from IRCC to apply for permanent residency.
  • The worker provides all necessary documents to IRCC to complete the permanent residence application.
  • IRCC and Yukon’s Immigration Unit verify the supporting documents.
  • The applicant receives permanent residence.
